The Monday market

One of the finest markets in Provence: every Monday morning, all year round, the village centre goes pedestrian and comes alive with producers and traders. From April to the end of September, a farmers' market is also held on Friday late afternoon.

The 2026 season of the Friday farmers' market ended on 25 September; it starts again in April. The Monday market carries on all winter.

Practical info. Monday morning, all year round. Friday 4.30pm – 7pm, from April to the end of September, place de la République. Parking at the entrances to the village.

The Dentelles de Montmirail

Facing Mont Ventoux, finely chiselled blades of limestone rise above the vineyards of Gigondas. An easy loop climbs to the Rocher du Midi and its viewpoint indicator, then joins the Col du Cayron at the foot of the cliffs. The rock faces are also a renowned climbing spot.

Practical info. Starts from the centre of Gigondas, about 2 hrs, easy. From 15 June to 15 September the hills may be closed: check the access map the evening before. Find out more ↗

The Aroma'Plantes distillery

Surrounded by the lavender fields of the pays de Sault, this family-run distillery shows how plants become essential oils: free museum spaces, guided tours and workshops for young and old. Tours also in English and German.

Lavender fields of the pays de Sault

On the Sault plateau, at around 800 m, fine lavender and lavandin are grown. Fine lavender flowers mainly in the first half of July, lavandin from mid-July to mid-August. Every 15 August, the Sault lavender festival draws tens of thousands of visitors.

Practical info. Flowering varies with the weather. Market in Sault on Wednesday morning. Do not pick the flowers or walk into the fields: they are crops. Find out more ↗

AOC Ventoux wines

Created in 1973, the appellation covers 53 villages at the foot of the Giant. Mainly reds and rosés, made from Grenache and Syrah. Altitude and the mistral give it one of the coolest climates in the southern Rhône Valley: fresher wines than those from the plain.

Muscat de Beaumes-de-Venise

A vin doux naturel made solely from Muscat à petits grains, with its own appellation since 1945. Fermentation is stopped by adding grape spirit, which preserves the sugar and the aromas of the fruit. A small-scale production, found mostly on the spot, south of the Dentelles.

Ventoux cherries and muscat grapes

The cherry from the Coteaux du Ventoux is the only French cherry protected by an IGP: hand-picked from early May to mid-July. Muscat du Ventoux is a table grape with crunchy, bluish berries, with its own appellation since 1997, picked from August to October.

Practical info. At markets and from producers, in season.

The Carpentras truffle market

Every Friday in winter, Carpentras holds a market devoted to the black truffle of the Comtat and the foothills of Mont Ventoux. The professionals' market is discreet and quick; a second market, open to all, takes place in front of the tourist office.

Practical info. Friday morning, usually from late November to mid-March for professionals and from December to mid-March for the public, depending on the harvest. A summer truffle market runs from mid-May to mid-August. Find out more ↗

The Wednesday market

Seven centuries old: Malaucène's market is one of the oldest in Provence. On Wednesday mornings the Cours des Isnards fills with stalls: local produce, plants and flowers, clothes. In the warmer months it spills out onto the main road.
