Each side of the mountain

  • Via Bédoin (D974, south side). Up to Chalet Reynard: all year round. Beyond, up to the summit: closed in winter, usually from mid-November to mid-April. In 2026, it reopened on 17 April.
  • Via Sault (D164 then D974, east side). Joins the road from Bédoin at Chalet Reynard for the last 6 kilometres: same rule, Chalet Reynard all year round, the top closed in winter.
  • Via Malaucène (D974, north side). Up to the Mont Serein ski station: all year round. Beyond: closed in winter, usually from mid-November to mid-May. In 2026, it reopened on 13 May.

In winter the closure applies to everyone, cyclists included. Chalet Reynard and Mont Serein remain accessible, with winter equipment compulsory for cars.

When does the road close?

The winter closure is expected in mid-November. The exact date is set by official order each year: we add it here as soon as it is published.

When does it reopen?

Usually in mid-April on the Bédoin and Sault side, and in mid-May on the Malaucène side, depending on the snow. In 2026: 17 April on the Bédoin and Sault side, 13 May on the Malaucène side.

What to do when the top is closed?

Drive up to Chalet Reynard or Mont Serein: the view is already beautiful, and from Chalet Reynard you can reach the summit on foot along the GR4 (about 11 km there and back, 4.5 hours) when there is no snow. All the details are on our Climbing Mont Ventoux page.
