The Giant, the Gorges de la Nesque and the lavender of Sault, then the Dentelles and their wines.

Three days to explore the Mont Ventoux area without rushing: the summit and Bédoin, then the Sault plateau via the Gorges de la Nesque, and finally the hilltop villages and vineyards of the Dentelles de Montmirail.

Day 1
Bédoin and the summit
Bédoin market on Monday, then drive up to the summit on the Bédoin road, stopping at Chalet Reynard and the Tom Simpson memorial. In the evening, dinner on one of the village's terraces.

Day 2, morning
The Gorges de la Nesque road
From Villes-sur-Auzon, follow the D942 along the cliffside to the Castelleras viewpoint. Keen walkers can head down to the Chapelle Saint-Michel, at the bottom of the gorges.

Day 2, afternoon
Sault and the lavender
Head up to Sault, on its plateau. In July the lavender fields are in bloom; all year round, the Aroma'Plantes distillery explains how the essential oil is extracted. Wednesday morning is market day.

Day 3, morning
The Château du Barroux
Visit the fortress of Le Barroux, which overlooks the plain facing Mont Ventoux, then make a detour via Caromb and its church.

Day 3, afternoon
The Dentelles and muscat
An easy walk above Gigondas to the Rocher du Midi, then a tasting of AOC Ventoux or Muscat de Beaumes-de-Venise. Head back via Crillon-le-Brave for the sunset.
